The Penn State Greater Allegheny baseball program traveled to Lexington, VA to battle #1 Southern Virginia for a four games series. On Friday the Knights took the first two games of the series 4-0 and 13-4.
In game one, Southern Virginia held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when they pushed across three runs to take home the 4-0 victory. Junior Jon Lutz (West Mifflin) was the hard luck loser going 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs. Offensively Freshman Scott Dierdorf (Hopewell) led the way collecting 2 hits.
In game two, Greater Allegheny struck first with 3 runs in the first, but Southern Virginia was too much over the next six frames picking up the 13-4 victory. Freshman Tim Connelly (Woodland Hills) picked up the loss. Junior Ted Fricke (Carrick) picked two rbi's in the loss.
With the losses Penn State Greater Allegheny falls to 7-5 overall in the young 2011 campaign. The Lions will be back in action tomorrow as they conclude their four game series with 11:00 a.m. double header.
