Late Runs Contribute in GA Baseball 7-2 Drop to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

Springfield, Ill. - In their first game of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series, the #3 Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team fell in a 7-2 battle with #6 St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), Monday night at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.

Greater Allegheny was first on the board, as they notched a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Junior catcher Troy Ambros (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./West Browar) doubled to left field before sophomore Bill Carter (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) came in to courtesy run. Junior outfielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East) singled up the middle to push Carter across home plate, GA ahead 1-0.

The next two innings remained scoreless before St. Joseph's scored two runs in the top of the 5th. St. Joseph's dropped four more on Greater Allegheny in the top of the sixth, putting GA in a 6-1 hole. Sophomore outfielder Jose Pablo Bonilla (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico/Academia Santa Maria) doubled to right center to open the bottom of the sixth. Bonilla advanced to home as Greater Allegheny took two outs, 6-2.

A St. Joseph's homer in the top of the seventh concluded the scoring drive for the evening, as St. Joseph's took game one by a score of 7-2.

Ambros, Concepcion and senior infielder Adam Wehr (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) went 2-for-3 at the plate alongside Ambros and Concepcion each having a run batted in. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Zach Krivda (McKeesport, Pa./McKeeport) saw 5 innings on the mound, throwing six strike-outs and 52 strikes on 83 pitches.

Greater Allegheny (30-11) is set to face Robert Morris University-Springfield on Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the second round of the World Series.
