McKeesport, Pa. – In a week where the Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (3-8, 0-0) faced some tough competition, one player shined. Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) was honored by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Wednesday being named the Week 1 PSUAC Hitter of the Week.
Going up against two of the top teams in both NAIA and NCAA Division II, Jacko hit .455 with two RBI and had an on base percentage of .636 over the four games. In Saturday’s doubleheader against Fisher College, he combined to go 3-6 with an RBI and followed that up with a 2-5 effort with two walks against #4 ranked Mercyhurst.
Jacko has been a force to be reckoned with at the top of the PSUGA lineup working his way on base to set up the high-powered middle of the PSUGA order. He currently is tied for the team lead in hits with 12, tied for second on the team in walks with six, and is fourth on the team in on base percentage sitting at .463.
The four-year starter, has had a great career in a PSUGA uniform with a career average of .314 in 100 games and he brings his success and leadership into this season. He is excited for his new leadership role and knows this team has great pieces for not only this season but for the future as well.
“It’s great, you got to just work hard and keep the team in it no matter what the score is,” said Jacko. “I’m glad that we have some young guys stepping up. The last couple years it has been a struggle to get people up and get people in it and now it seems like everyone is in it. Even coming off the bench everyone is stepping up and getting their swings in and getting the job done.”
Jacko and the rest of the PSUGA Baseball Team will return to action on Saturday when they start PSUAC play against Penn State Fayette. The teams will play a doubleheader at Fayette on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. before the series shifts to PSUGA for Sunday’s contest, which will be another doubleheader at 2 p.m.
