PSUGA Ends Myrtle Beach Trip with Matchup vs. John Wood CC
The PSUGA Baseball Team plays their final game in Myrtle Beach on Friday when they battle John Wood CC at 6 p.m. PSUGA is trying to get their offense going early having not scored before the fifth inning in either game on Thursday.
Myrtle Beach, SC – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (3-3, 0-0) is looking to end their Myrtle Beach trip on a high note when they take on John Wood CC on Friday at 6 p.m. PSUGA currently has a record of 3-2 through their first five games and is looking to go home with a winning record when they kick off the home half of their schedule.
They are coming off of a day in which they picked up a walk-off win and were beaten by 10 in the same day. It would be a walk-off single by Josh Arroyo (Tao Alta, Puerto Rico/Levvittown Baptist Academy) and a dominant pitching performance by Matt Smith (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) that would lift them to a 4-3 victory in game 1 of the day against Lackawanna.
However, in game 2 of the day, they were unable to get anything going offensively and fell behind 5-0 through the first two innings before falling to Catholic (JV) 11-1. Their only run on the day came via a sacrifice fly by Caleb Smith (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) to right field that would score Zack Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Cannon-McMillan).
In both games, the offense took a while to come to life as the first run in both games was scored in the fifth inning or later. In the team’s three wins this season, two of them have been come from behind victories that started in the fifth or later. They will be looking for a more consistent offensive approach when they battle John Wood CC at 6 p.m.
John Wood CC comes limping into Friday’s game after dropping their first three games of the season. They played Kasakaia in all three of those games and have lost by scores of 14-0, 11-1, and 6-0. They have only scored one run this season through three games and their offense will look to shine a little better against PSUGA.
Probable: Luke Padezan (0-1, 9.00)
Luke Padezan (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) struggled his last time out giving up six earned runs in six innings of work. He kept his pitch count down and was able to go the distance but he was unable to get the ball by anyone resulting in no strikeouts on the day. Padezan is looking for a bounce back start as he takes the mound against John Wood CC so he can get back into a good place as the schedule moves home for the rest of the season.
First pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Griffith Field at the Cal Ripken Experience. It will be the final game for the baseball team in Myrtle Beach before they head home to play out the rest of their regular season schedule.
