Baseball Preps for 4 Game Set with New Kensington

Baserunner

Mckeesport, PA

Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball returns to action this weekend with a 4-game set versus Penn State New Kensington. Saturday, April 3 features a doubleheader at New Kensington (No Offseason, Field #2) and Sunday is the return doubleheader for GA at Pullman Park.

GA enters the 4-game set winning 3 of their last 4. Despite an early week loss to Penn State DuBois, the bats for the boys from Mckeesport have been staying warm lately. They have recorded 58 hits over their last 4 games. Both Brian Koglin (Fox Chapel, PA/Fox Chapel HS) and Tyler Elliot (Greensburg, PA / Jeanette HS) lead the team with 10 hits each. Koglin was most recently named the PSUAC hitter of the week.

Pitching has been a little more inconsistent this season for GA. Dominant performances from Matt Smith (North Versailles/ East Allegheny HS) and Derek Turcovski (Irwin, PA / Norwin HS) last weekend are good examples of what the staff is capable of doing. Smith struckout 3, going 4 innings, yielding only 1 run. Turcovski was dealing from the mound going 5 innings, striking out 12, and not giving up a run.

GA is 3-4 overall and 3-4 in the PSUAC West. New Kensington enters 0-3 and 0-1 in the PSUAC West.

Saturday's games are at 12pm and 2pm and Sunday's games are at 1pm and 3pm.
