Men's Basketball Rallies Too Late

Men's Basketball Rallies Too Late

McKeesport, Pa- In their first action this season, the PSUGA Men's Basketball Team looked good at times and gave a steady, consistent effort. A rally late in the game was not enough to take the lead, as they fell to Pittsburgh-Titusville, 70-63.

A tough shooting night in the first half proved to be the central problem. PSUGA had a first half field goal percentage of just 13.9% and only scored 17 first half points. They shot much better in the second half however at 40.9%. Sophomore Forward Aaron Byrd (Dr. Henry A. Wise) led the effort with a double-double: scoring 14 points and chipping in with 14 rebounds. Freshman Forward Zack Smith (Ringgold), Junior Center Jon Schmid (Glenbard West) and Junior Guard Mike McCarthy (Sto Rox) all finished in double figures in points as well.

The defensive effort for PSUGA was tremendous. They managed to total 14 steals. The team also enjoyed great success on the glass, pulling down 50 total rebounds. Perhaps most impressive of all are the 26 offensive rebounds PSUGA managed to secure.

In a tough, physical game PSUGA hung in there. The strong effort defensively and refusal to give up against a talented opponent are positive things for this team to build upon moving forward.  Next on the slate for GA is an 8:00 PM game against visiting Geneva, on November 15.
