Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball Competes in Washington and Jefferson Tip-Off

Washington, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team traveled to Washington and Jefferson College this past Saturday and Sunday to play in W&J's Tip-Off Tournament.

Greater Allegheny opened up their day against Wilkes University. A slow first half for GA allowed Wilkes to surpass as they went into the second half, 45-28. Buckets contributed from sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley), sophomore guard Peter Olumese (Switzerland/College du Leman) and senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) assisted GA in the run on Wilkes. Sophomore guard Jordan Zeer (Victoria, British Columbia/New Westminster) added seven points off the bench and three rebounds.

Greater Allegheny outscored Wilkes in the second half 47-42. Greater Allegheny went 88.9% (16-18) from the free throw line to help their effort to overcome Wilkes.

Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) completed the game with 31 points, racking up 13 boards alongside his standout effort in the arc. Petrie managed to put 21 of his 31 points on the board in the second half, in the attempt to overturn Wilkes for the win. He put in a valiant effort at the free throw line, as he went 15-for-17, a team best. Addison also dished out eight assists to boost Greater Allegheny's efforts.

Despite a big second half play, Greater Allegheny fell short 87-75. The team moved on to the next day to play Franciscan University for a consolation game.

Franciscan jumped out to a quick lead over GA. Byrd tallied eleven points and five rebounds alongside going 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the first twenty minutes of play. Addison and Dixon matched each other with six points apiece. Greater Allegheny trailed the first half, 45-30.

Another big second half show out from Addison, as he added 21 points and nine rebounds to the GA tally. Zeer, Dixon and Byrd also contributed points in the last twenty minutes to try and lift Greater Allegheny. The efforts were not enough as the Lions went on to fall to Franciscan, 88-64.

As a team, Greater Allegheny shot 70% (28-40) from the free throw line. GA matched Franciscan in rebounds with 43 apiece.

Addison closed the second game with 27 points and 15 rebounds along with finishing 14-17 foul shots. To conclude the weekend, he assisted Greater Allegheny with 58 points, 28 rebounds and added 85.3% (29-34) of his free throws. His achievements earned Addison the All-Tournament team distinction.

Greater Allegheny next sees play Tuesday, as the men travel with the women for a double-header over Pitt-Titusville. The men tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
