Men's Hoops Suffers Bitter Defeat over Pitt-York, 88-60

McKeesport, Pa. - As Penn State Greater Allegheny hosted the undefeated Penn State York, the GA Lions found themselves on the downside of the PSUAC match-up, Friday night, 88-60.

Freshman guard Eric Moody (Philadelphia, Pa./New Media Technology Charter) jumped Greater Allegheny to a quick 5-2 lead with a jumper and a three-pointer. Senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched six points over the next four minutes to lift the home team. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) was the next for his team to answer, as the 6-6 guard hammered two consecutive three-pointers. York began to pull away but not before senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) marked six points before the game was sent into halftime, Greater Allegheny trailing 42-26.

York answered first before Addison made a lay-up and then a lone free-throw. Dizon, Moody and Byrd continued to press on for their Lions, as they each marked points for their team. Sophomore guard Peter Olumese (Switzerland/College du Leman) and sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) earned a lay-up and a three-pointer, respectively, in an attempt to lift Greater Allegheny. Byrd answered before Addison answered with five points, bringing the game to 66-49. Addison posted seven points within a minute to continue to battle York's pressing offense.  York continued to tally as Moody slashed a free-throw. The game ended in regulation as junior guard Matt Williams achieved the last jumper of the game, closing forty minutes in a 88-60 loss for PSUGA.

Addison was Greater Allegheny's leading scorer, as he went 56.2% (9-of-16) from the floor along with dropping 23 points and ten boards. Byrd, now just nine points away from 1,000 career points, bucketed eleven points and two rebounds. Dizon boosted his team efforts with ten points. Moody put up eight in the defeat, as he pulled down three boards.

As a team, Greater Allegheny dropped 41.7% (25-of-60) of their shots taken from the floor. GA managed 16 points off of York's 13 turnovers.

Penn State Greater Allegheny (2-15, 1-7) looks to turn the weekend around, as GA hosts Penn College in Wunderley Gymnasium. The Saturday game, which was originally set for 3 p.m., has now been moved up to 1 p.m. due to the projected inclement weather.
