Greater Allegheny Men's Hoops Grinds Out 87-80 Win Over Penn State DuBois

DuBois, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team holds on to take their fourth consecutive Penn State University Athletic Conference victory, as the men take a 87-80 win over Penn State DuBois, Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter) was the first to answer toward the Greater Allegheny tally. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) hammered down two back-to-back three-pointers to lift the GA score 8-2 just three minutes into the game. DuBois made their way back before freshman guard Eric Moody (Philadelphia, Pa./New Media Technology Charter) and senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) completed a lay-up a piece. Sophomore Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) was a force DuBois could not handle, as the guard clobbered their defense with three trey's, boosting Greater Allegheny to a 21-14 influx.

Freshman guard Denzel London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) contributed three points as Addison made a lay-up. The final five minutes of action before halftime heard from a variety of athletes. Senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) contributed a lay-up before Moody dropped a jumper. Dizon was next up as the 6-5 forward earned a lay-up. Addison earned two at the free-throw line before he drew a lay-up. Williams and Dizon added lay-ups before time ran out, GA ahead 40-31.

Byrd, Dizon and Williams added two points each to keep the GA drive onward. The Greater Allegheny offense was held silent for four minutes as DuBois began their comeback. D. London and Byrd put up lay-up's to inch ahead of their opponent. Dizon, Addison and Byrd added ten in just over a minute to hoisted their lead to 60-52. D. London added six before Dizon and Addison each poured on four more apiece. D. London raised the lead with a jumper before he kicked off the peppering of free-throws to end the game, as he made both attempted. Dixon, Moody and D. London accompanied sophomore guard Peter Olumese (Switzerland/College du Leman) as they put up a combined nine points off of free-throws to end the PSUAC game, Greater Allegheny ahead 87-80.

Addison ended the game with 19 points and twelve rebounds. D. London came off the bench completing 60% (6-of-10) of his free-throws attempted and 50% (6-of-12) of shots taken from the floor. He added 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Dizon dumped 66.6% (8-of-12) of his shots attempted from the floor, tallying 17 points and seven boards. Dixon put up eleven points as Byrd totaled nine points and eight boards.

As a team, Greater Allegheny comlpeted 50.8% (33-of-65) of shots taken from the floor alongside of 64% (16-of-25) of shots taken from the charity stripe. Greater Allegheny out-rebounded their opponent 42-31 as they earned 13 points off of DuBois turnovers. GA managed 48 points in the paint and 30 points off the bench.

Greater Allegheny (8-16, 7-8) have a bit of a break before they host a double-header with the women Friday, February 14. Penn State Schyulkill comes to Wunderley Gymnasium for a Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up; men set for tip-off at 8 p.m.
