Greater Allegheny Men's Hoops PSUAC Heartbreaker over Brandywine

McKeesport, Pa. - Keeping a close game through regulation, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team saw a Penn State University Athletic Conference defeat as Brandywine came to Wunderley Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon, 92-87.

Senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) opened the game with a lay-up toward the Greater Allegheny score. Freshman guard Eric Moody (Philadelphia, Pa./New Media Technology Charter) added a lay-up before he nailed a three-pointer, GA 7-3. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) contributed two free-throw's along with two lay-up's continuing on Greater Allegheny's drive. Moody dropped two jumpers to battle back with Brandywine as they closed their gap. Freshman guard Denzel London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) added three points to GA before senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) made a lay-up. Addison put-up two free-throws and a lay-up before London earned tallies at the charity stripe as well. The last three minutes before half answered to Moody, Byrd and London, as Greater Allegheny found themselves trailing, 45-42. 

To start the second half, Addison completed two free-throw attempts before he made two lay-up's. London and Addison added two more apiece before junior guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) hammered down a trey. Junior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter) earned a jumpshot before Addison and Dizon racked up a lay-up each, as GA tied up the game at 61. Williams added four more points before Addison dropped a lay-up. GA was held to just 67 as Brandywine climbed the ladder. Addison was next to contribute a lone free-throw before Moody hit another lay-up. London put up six points before Greater Allegheny slowed the clock down. With just 30 seconds to play and GA trailing by four, Addison hammered a three-pointer before GA called a time-out. Brandywine managed one free-throw before Addison hit another trey, bringing the gap to two. Fouls and a missed lay-up pushed four free-throws for Brandywine. Williams hit the last points tallied for Greater Allegheny, as the junior hit a three-pointer. Time was just not on GA's side, as it expired Brandywine ahead 92-87.

Addison earned a double-double on the afternoon, as the 6'6 guard notched 33 points and boarded 20 rebounds. He assisted his team by adding 87.5% (7-of-8) of his shots taken from the free-throw line. Moody was a stand-out player, as he recorded 17 points and dished out five assists. D. London came off the bench and dumped 50% (6-of-12) from the floor as he added 15 points and dished out five assists. Williams also came off the bench and put up nine points off of 80% (4-of-5) shots taken from the floor.

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 45.6% (36-of-79) of their shots taken from the floor alongside shooting 62.5% (10-of-16) from the free-throw line. Greater Allegheny managed to add 21 points off of 20 Brandywine turnovers. They also marked 46 points in the paint and 27 points off the bench.

Greater Allegheny hosts Penn State Schyulkill in their last game of the regular season. The Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up is set for tip-off at 2 p.m., Sunday afternoon, in Wunderley Gymnasium.
