McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team hosts Carlow University, Wednesday night, where GA narrowly saw defeat by a score of 68-67.
Greater Allegheny and Carlow went point-for-point through the entire game. Freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) kicked off the scoring drive for Greater Allegheny with a three-pointer. Sophomore guard Denzel Boyer-London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) completed a layup before Hicks answered again with another trey. Boyer-London added four before senior forward Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) finished on two free-throws, raising the score 14-10 six minutes in.
Addison put up three more as Hicks compiled seven points, one being a three outside the arc. Addison hammered two three-pointers before freshman guard Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) made a layup, moving Greater Allegheny ahead 32-24 with five minutes before halftime. Carlow got closer as Addison hit a jumper and ended the scoring drive with a dunk before halftime, GA leading 36-32.
Carlow came out hot after half with nine points through the first four minutes. Patterson-Brown completed a jumper before Boyer-London slashed a free-throw and a layup. Addison put down two layups as Boyer-London nailed a three-pointer to bring the tally to 53-48, Carlow ahead with ten minutes left to play.
Hicks and Boyer-London put up four before Hicks lofted a three-pointer, bringing the score to 57-55. Carlow pulled away a little before junior guard Chris Dixon (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) hit a trey, the away team leading by four. Boyer-London, Addison and Hicks add points to wind the clock down to 0:57, setting Addison up to hit a three-pointer and regain the lead 67-66. Carlow completed two free-throws to overcome Greater Allegheny as time expired.
As a team, Greater Allegheny put in 30 points in the paint and 20 points on turnovers. The Lions dropped 42.2% (27-of-64) from the floor alongside completing 50% (4-of-8) from the foul line.
Addison finished the game with a double-double, recording 24 points and 14 rebounds. He went 64.3% (9-of-14) from the floor, while putting in 60% (3-of-5) from the free-throw line and 60% (3-of-5) from outside the arc. Hicks dropped 20 points, as he completed 61.5% (8-of-13) of his shots taken. Boyer-London also recorded a double-double, as he downed 16 points and ten rebounds, while dishing out four assists and four steals.
Greater Allegheny (3-4) looks onward to Saturday, as they host their first Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up of the 2014-15 season. Penn State DuBois comes to Wunderley Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
