GA Men's Hoops Stunted by Mont Alto, 102-87

Mont Alto, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team came up short on the road in a Penn State University Athletic Conference, as Penn State Mont Alto overcame with a 102-87 victory.

Freshman forward Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) put up the first point of the game as he slashed a free-throw. Mont Alto jumped out to a quick lead before freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) made a jumper just three minutes into the contest. Hicks slashed a jumper and a free-throw before freshman guard Jashuan Fontanez (Downingtown, Pa./-) made a jumper, 11-8 Mont Alto. 

Hicks and Patterson-Brown dumped on a three-pointer apiece, separated by two Fontanez completed free-throws, 21- 16 MA. The home team then went on an 18-0 run over the course of a six minute run before Hicks broke the silence with a jumper. Freshman guard Antonio Lucic-Jozak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) put up a jumper before Fontanez drained a pair of treys alongside a jumper, GA down 45-28 with less than four minutes left until the half.

Freshman guard Terance Wroniak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) put down a jumper as Fontanez bucketed another three-pointer. Senior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus) and Hicks dumped on a jumper apiece before the clock hit the half, Mont Alto ahead of the Greater Allegheny Lions, 59-37.

Hicks was the first to answer in the second-half for Greater Allegheny, as he put down a three-pointer. Williams added on a free-throw before Fontanez tacked on 13 points over a five minute period, Greater Allegheny still trailing 72-54. Williams put down a jumper as Patterson-Brown answered with ten points for the visiting team, 82-68. 

Williams and Hicks managed jumpers but Mont Alto just continued to pull away. Williams notched a foul shot as Lucic-Jozak drained a three-pointer. Hicks and Williams added jumpers before Williams and Hicks tallied free-throws for GA. Lucic-Jozak and Fontanez added late three-pointers as freshman guard Darius White-Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) got in on the mix, posting a jumper. Fontanez rode out the scoring drive with a jumper and two free-throws, ending the PSUAC match-up in a 102-87 Mont Alto decision .

Fontanez played the entire contest, shooting 76.5% (13-of-17) from the floor, 77.7% (7-of-9) from outside the arc and 100% (4-for-4) from the foul line. The newcomer downed 37 points while grabbing five boards and two assists. Hicks dropped 100% (3-of-3) from the free-throw line as he drained 19 points with three rebounds and an assist. Patterson-Brown notched 14 points through the bout.

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 80% (12-of-15) of their shots from the free-throw line while putting down 49.2% (31-of-63) of their shots from the floor. GA managed 14 points off of second chance alongside adding ten points off of turnover.

Greater Allegheny (6-10, 3-4 PSUAC) will travel to Penn State York, Sunday afternoon, for another Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. Since Penn State York's women forfeited, the men will now tip-off around 1 p.m.
