Hard-Fought Men's Basketball Game Ends Short for Greater Allegheny

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team fought hard through forty minutes of action against Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State Fayette, but was just not enough to overcome, GA falling 106-91.

Fayette jumped out quickly with seven points before freshman guard Jashaun Fontanez (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) completed a jumper and one. Freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) added a pair of jumpers as freshman forward Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) put up a jumper himself. Freshmad guard Terance Wroniak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) made a layup to bring the game to a 13-11 Fayette lead just five minutes in.

The visitors began to pull away as Wroniak, Fontanez and Hicks added points for Greater Allegheny. Freshman guard Antonio Lucic-Jozak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) hammered down a three-pointer to bring the game to a 32-19 Fayette advantage. Senior forward Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) put down a layup as Lucic-Jozak completed two from the foul line.

Addison dropped a pair of layups as Fontanez completed a free-throw and a three-pointer with less than five minutes left until halftime. Wroniak and Addison added free throws alongside a Patterson-Brown and Addison set of layups. Fontanez put down a layup before Patterson-Brown added the final points for Greater Allegheny in the second half, Fayette ahead 57-41.

The second-half scoring drive opened with a set of completed free-throws and a ringer of a three-pointer from Hicks. Addison matched Hicks' three-pointer with one of his own along with a Patterson-Brown made layup and free-throw, Greater Allegheny behind 66-52. Addison added a layup of his own before Fontanez completed a jumper and a free-throw leading into a Hicks jumper.

Addison achieved a set of free-throws before he made a layup with just ten minutes to play in regulation. Patterson-Brown added a layup along with free-throw's added from Addison, Patterson-Brown and Hicks, moving the scoring to 90-69. Addison put down a layup before senior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus) made a jumper. Lucic-Jozak completed a trey and a layup as Fontanez tallied two free-throws.

Patterson-Brown added three points before freshman forward Alex Woods (Rockville, Md./St. John's College) capped off a three-pointer, Fayette leading 102-86. Fontanez laid on a layup as Hicks nailed down the final points for Greater Allegheny with a three-pointer, Fayette on top 106-91.

Addison finished the night with 22 points and 16 rebounds, recording his 17th double-double on the season. Petrie completed 100% (5-for-5) of his shots from the foul line. Fontanez dropped a double-double himself with 18 points and ten rebounds, along with five assists and a steal. Hicks went 66.7% (4-of-6) from the free-throw line as he added 16 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds for the home team. Patterson-Brown put up 15 points for GA with seven rebounds and one assist.

As a team, Greater Allegheny out-rebounded Fayette 59-50 alongside earning 60.6% (20-of-33) from the free-throw line. The GA offense managed 34 points in the paint and 28 points off second-chance.

Greater Allegheny (8-16, 5-10 PSUAC) goes on the road, Wednesday, for a non-conference match-up against Pitt-Titusville. The men are set to tip-off after the women around 7 p.m.
