Hillsboro, Ohio - Through forty minutes of action, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team overthrew Clark State by a 79-67 mark for their second triumph of the weekend in the 2015-16 Southern State Community College Tip-Off Tournament.
Clark State was first on the board before sophomore guard Denzel Boyer-London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and sophomore forward Curtis Newby (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) both marked jumpers as Boyer-London added a layup, 7-6 Clark State within four minutes of action.
Freshman guard Jordon Payne (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport), junior guard Moe Alli (Edison, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) and senior guard Jashaun Fontanez (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) all contibuted two points a piece before Alli downed a pair of three-pointers, giving Greater Allegheny the 18-16 advantage.
Newby put up four points as Alli and Fontanez put up two each before Payne and Alli extended the Greater Allegheny lead with a pair of three-pointers, 32-22. Fontanez added a jumper to send the two teams into halftime, 34-27.
Sophomore guard Khari Hicks (East Hills, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) downed two from the free-throw line before freshman forward Isaiah Fluker (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) downed a three pointer, the Lions now leading by just five. Boyer-London contributed a layup and one before Fluker made a layup and Payne with a trey, 47-38 GA.
Fontanez and Hicks both denote a layup as freshman forward Scott Przybysz (Elderton, Pa./West Shamokin) marked a jumper. Fontanez snapped with ten points, five from the free-throw line and one outside the arc to bring the lead to 63-48.
Hicks achieved a layup as Fontanez rang another three-pointer. Alli made two from the free-throw line as Newby completed a jumper, Clark State continuing to drive, 72-59. Fontanez, Payne and Hicks rode out the rest of the game from the free-throw line, finishing regulation with a 79-67 Greater Allegheny triumph.
Fontanez came off of the bench with 22 points as the senior connected on 53.9% (7-of-13) on the floor, 66.7% (2-for-3) of that from outside the arc along with connecting on 75% (6-of-8) from the free-throw line. The guard also posted three boards, two steals and two assists. Alli went 55.6% (5-of-9) from the floor and 50% (3-of-6) from the three-point line while noting 15 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Payne went 100% (4-of-4) from the free-throw line while noting 12 points, five rebounds and two assists. Hicks and Newby both added eight points a piece, combining for 12 boards, three assists and a steal.
Greater Allegheny (2-5) takes a break for the holiday before they host Penn State Fayette to Wunderley Gymnasium on December 5th for their first Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up of the 15-16 season. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
