McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team earned their first Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) victory of the 2016-17 season over Penn State Beaver, Tuesday night, by a margin of 68-62.

Beaver was the first on the board before senior forward Jumanne Butler-McDaniel (Franklin, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) and junior forward Curtis Newby (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) put up points in the paint, 5-4 Beaver. Sophomore guard Jordon Payne (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and Newby both noted a layup before junior guard Jeremy McMunn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) took the lead with a three-pointer, 13-10 with just seven minutes of action.

Senior guard Moe Alli (Edison, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) laid points in the paint before junior guard Khari Hicks (East Hills, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) and Newby put down two points a piece, tying the game back up at 19. Sophomore forward George Prota (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and junior guard Denzel Boyer-London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) put down layups, Boyer-London with the and one, 26-23 GA with five minutes until halftime. McMunn put down a layup before sophomore guard Juwan Ledbetter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) surged with a free-throw and a three-pointer, 32-29 GA. Payne netted a layup and one as the two teams went into halftime, 35-33 Greater Allegheny. 

The second half kicked off with a Newby layup as Butler-McDaniel mirrored him with a pair of layups. Newby made four straight as Hicks and Butler-McDaniel contributed, 49-47 GA. Boyer-London drained two from the foul line before Payne and Newby put up more points in the paint, now just five minutes until the end of regulation, GA behind 56-55.

Ledbetter made a layup as Alli denoted a layup alongside two free-throws, 61-56. Freshman guard Connor Paoletti (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and Hicks both dropped layups as Payne completed a jumper. Hicks added the final point of the game off of a free-throw, Greater Allegheny 68-62.

Newby dropped a team-high 16 points with seven boards, five blocks, three steals and an assist while Butler-McDaniel denoted eight points with six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Payne added nine points with three assists and a pair of steals while McMunn dropped five points with six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Hicks came off the bench for nine points with six boards.

As a team, Greater Allegheny put up 44.4% (8-of-18) from the foul line with 42% (29-of-69) from the floor. Despite getting out-rebounded 55-42, Greater Allegheny put up 50 points in the paint with 21 points off turnovers and 16 points off fastbreak.

Greater Allegheny (5-2, 1-0 PSUAC) looks forward to their next PSUAC match-up, as Penn State Schuylkill comes to Wunderley Gymnasium for a 8 p.m. slated tip-off.
