Ten Goals Elevate Greater Allegheny Men's Soccer Over WCCC

Youngwood, Pa. - Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Wood (Rockville, Md./St. John's College High) and the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team posted a 10-1 triumph over Westmoreland County Community College, Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) received a pass from sophomore forward Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and freshman midfielder Ricardo Dip (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Conception Academy) and put it through the goalies hands at the seventh minute mark, 1-0 GA. A little bit later, Dip served the ball to Marina, who increased the tally to 2-0.

In the 36th minute, sophomore midfielder Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) hammered a ball 20 yards out lifting the Greater Allegheny tally to three. Junior midfielder Gerardo Diaz Perez (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Conception Academy) received a ball from Marina, giving Greater Allegheny the 4-0 lead to head into halftime.

Less than ten minutes into the second half, Nurkic dribbled down the field and drove a shot past the goalies hands, 5-0. Five minutes later, sophomore defender Giorgio Albino Castillo (Isabela, Puerto Rico/Dr. Heriberto Domenech) took a penalty kick for Greater Allegheny, resulting in a goal to continue to Lion stride. 

Not long after, Diaz Perez passed the ball to Dip who sailed the ball over the goalies hands, 7-0 GA. Less than four minutes later, freshman forward Kyle Griffin (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) shifted the ball to Marina who tucked away another goal to boost the lead to 8-0.

In the 81st minute, Westmoreland County managed to slip one in the back of the net to get the home team on the board, 8-1. Three minutes later, Dip dished the ball to Andrews, who took another long ball to the back of the mesh, 10-1 Greater Allegheny. With time just about to expire, freshman forward Dinesh Nepal (Dormont, Pa./Keystone Oaks) found the feet of Dip who posted the final tally of the day, ending Greater Allegheny's showout 10-1.

Greater Allegheny outshot Westmoreland County Community College 36-10, an outstanding 30 shots on target. Wood faced seven shots on goal, stopping six. Dip took ten shots on the day, eight being on goal while both Marina and Diaz Perez took six shots a piece, each one of them being on goal.

Greater Allegheny (5-1, 2-1 PSUAC) gets back into Penn State University Athletic Conference play this weekend as they travel with the women to Penn State Brandywine. The men are set for kick-off after the women, around 4 p.m.
