Men's Soccer Wraps up PSUAC Regular Season with 1-1 Weekend

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team went on the road for a Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend, as they came out on top over Penn State Mont Alto, 3-2, before they dropped to Penn State York, 3-0.

The first contest came Saturday afternoon following the women's 2-0 Mont Alto victory. Penn State Mont Alto held a Pink Out Soccer Event raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Mont Alto was first on the board in the 20th minute as Kyle Greist took an unassisted goal into the back of the mesh, 1-0 Mont Alto. Just nine minutes later, freshman midfielder Ricardo Dip (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth) received a pass from freshman midfielder Chandra Gautam (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear), who put it up and over the goalie's hands, 1-1 tie going into halftime.

In the 71st minute, Mont Alto's Moses Asempah took a penalty kick goal to elevate the home team 2-1 over Greater Allegheny. Not even two minutes later, Dip found the feet of sophomore Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who chipped it over the goaltender to even the mark at two.

With less than eight minutes left in regulation, sophomore midfielder Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) served the ball to Marina, who lured the goalie out and flushed it into the back of the net, 3-2 Greater Allegheny advantage.

The game expired with Greater Allegheny outshooting Mont Alto on target, 13-9. Dip posted six shots on the day, four being on target while Marina ripped four, three being on mark. Freshman midfielder Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) contributed three shots as freshman midfielder Zebulon Hammond (Philadelphia, Pa./Meritime Academy Charter) also posted three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Wood (Rockville, Md./St. John's College High) faced nine shots on goal, stopping seven of them.

Greater Allegheny moved on to #1 Penn State York, Sunday.

York managed to post a goal in the 24th minute to lead Greater Allegheny 1-0 into halftime. In a span of just five minutes late in the second half, Penn State York dropped another set of goals, giving them the 3-0 Penn State University Athletic Conference advantage.

York outshot Greater Allegheny 22-15 through regulation. Wood faced eleven shots on goal, stopping eight. Dip contributed four shots while sophomore forward Jake Thieret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny), junior midfielder Gerardo Diaz Perez (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Conception Academy) and Marina all added three shots each.

Greater Allegheny finishes the Penn State University Athletic Conference regular season 7-5, 4-5 PSUAC.The Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff schedule has yet to be announced.

The men are scheduled to travel to Southern State Community College, Saturday, for a non-conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
