Soccer Looks for Turnaround as New Month Begins

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer team (1-4-1, 0-2-1) is looking to come back rested and at full strength when they take on Penn State Beaver (6-3, 3-0) on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. The PSUGA Soccer team returns after having nearly a week and a half off to rest and recover from a tough opening to the 2019 season.

It was numbers that hurt PSUGA their last time out in what would be a 6-0 loss at the hands of Penn State Schuylkill. PSUGA started the game with just 10 players after losing some key pieces and things snowballed from there with Scranton getting on the board six times picking up the 6-0 victory.

One of the bright spots for PSUGA was the play of junior Goalkeeper Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, PA./Thomas Jefferson HS) who played a key role in not letting the game get too out of hand. Bucsok finished the day, saving 17 of the 23 shots he faced, falling just two saves short of the PSUGA single-game record of 19 held by former Lion Michael Anderson in a game against Penn College.

PSUGA is looking to turn things around as the calendar flips to October after going just 1-3-1 in their last five games. They currently sit in ninth in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and are on the outside looking in at the PSUAC playoff picture. However, a late-season turn around could be enough to get the team back on the right path. With six games remaining, all against PSUAC opponents, the time is now for PSUGA to find their groove.

They will start with a tough task when they take on a PSU-Beaver team that has won their last six games. Their last time out, they defeated PSU-Hazleton 11-0 in a game where their offense had the highest output of the season. Mishael Garcia led the offensive attack scoring four goals on four shots in the win.

Previous Match-ups

In nine previous match-ups with Penn State Beaver, PSUGA has gone just 1-8 with the lone win coming back in the 2013 season. Last year, PSU-Beaver defeated PSUGA 2-1 with a goal in the 65th minute. Former Lion Prajal Sharma scored the lone goal for PSUGA in the 57th minute of the game and PSUGA got off seven shots, three on goal, in the loss.

Tuesday’s game is scheduled to kick-off at 3:15 p.m. at Breisinger Field. Come out and support your Lions at 410 East Bruceton Road, Pittsburgh, PA. to catch all the action.
