Soccer Falls in PSUAC Weekend Finale

Scranton, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer team (1-4-1, 0-2-1) dropped their Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend finale to Penn State Scranton on Sunday 6-0. After giving up just two goals in the first half, PSUGA fell victim to the injury bug and didn't have enough to respond.

PSUGA started the game with just 11 players and held their own through the first half continuing their solid defensive play that has followed the team all season long.

Junior Goalkeeper Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, PA./Thomas Jefferson HS)  started in net and played well allowing only two goals through the first 45 minutes of play. However, PSUGA was forced to play on the defensive throughout the half and got very little offensive opportunities.

They went into halftime trailing 2-0 and were forced to play from behind once again. They would also be doing so with just 10 players as an injury forced them to play short.

They fought as hard as they could throughout the second half but Scranton found the net four more times to come away with a 6-0 victory. The loss drops PSUGA to 0-2-1 in conference play as they still look for their first conference win of the season.

Senior Dario Marina (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) and Namy Makiese (Pittsburgh, PA./Allderdice HS) once again led the team playing solid defense throughout the afternoon. Both have taken to their captains roles and led PSUGA through this rough portion of their schedule. PSUGA will get the next week and a half to rest and recover before they get back to conference play looking to turn things around.

The PSUGA Soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 1st, when they host Penn State Beaver at 3:15 p.m. The game will be played at Breisinger Field in Pleasant Hills, PA.
