Butler, Pa- Under a cold and dark March sky, the Greater Allegheny (0-1) softball team opened its 2013 season with a 19-2 loss at the hands of visiting SUNY-Canton.

GA scratched across its two runs in their half of the first inning, when a two-RBI single from freshman third baseman Nichole Metzler (California, PA/California) plated freshmen Ashley Lowenstein (San Jose, CA/Presentation) and Shelby Bendick (White Oak, PA/McKeesport).

Sophomore outfielder Jordyn Holsing (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) went 2-3 at the plate, while Bendick, Lowenstein, Metzler,  junior pitcher Samantha Segiel (North Huntindon, PA/Norwin), and sophomore first baseman Kelli Hall (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport)  each collected a hit as well.

Greater Allegheny returns to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for two more games against SUNY-Canton.  First pitch is set for 3 PM.
