Greater Allegheny Softball Takes Two Off New Kensington Forfeits

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Although getting a little over four innings of play in, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's softball team take their first two conference wins on the season over Penn State New Kensington, Saturday afternoon, due to forfeit.

The top of the first, New Ken managed four runs before GA got on the board. Sophomore outfielder Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) led Greater Allegheny off with a triple, putting her in scoring position. Junior infielder Jordyn Holsing (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) walked before sophomore infielder Ashley Lowenstein (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) hit a sacrafice fly ball to center, batting in Bendick.

Senior infielder Casey Naylor (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny) doubled before senior pitcher Sam Segiel (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) doubled, bringing home Naylor. Freshman outfielder Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) singled, moving Segiel home, closing the gap 4-3 New Ken. The visiting team gained two more runs in the top of the third, advancing their lead 6-3.

Junior infielder Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) doubled to left field as freshman catcher Kasey Dansak (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) singled, marking the final tally posted for the game. A New Kensington injury left the team with not enough players to compete, forfeiting to Greater Allegheny.

Seven hits were made on 15 at bats for Greater Allegheny through three innings. Segiel allowed five hits through her three innings on the bump.

The GA Lions are back on the field Sunday, as the team travels with the baseball team to Penn State Mont Alto. The softball team (2-2, 2-0) sets to open their Penn State University Athletic Conference bout at 1 p.m.
