Greater Allegheny Softball Opens Season with Double-Header Against WCCC
Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team opened up their 2014-15 regular season with a double-header at Woodland Hills High School, Sunday afternoon, where GA fell to WCCC in both contests, 15-4 and 12-2.

In game one, Westmoreland County Community College went up a huge eight runs in the top of the first inning making a huge hole for GA. Freshman second baseman Jen Keefer (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) walked to first base as junior right-handed pitcher Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) singled before she stole second. Freshman short-stop Kaylin Bob (Atlanta, Ga./Forest Park) doubled to bat Keefer home for the first score of the season.
WCCC dropped one run in the top of the third before GA came back up to bat in the bottom of the third. Bendick walked before senior first baseman Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) batted Bendick across home plate, moving GA to notch their second tally.
Westmoreland County CC posted five runs in the top of the fourth before notching another in the top of the fifth.
Greater Allegheny came back to bat in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore third baseman Marina Rinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) singled before sophomore outfielder Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) was hit by pitch, each of these batters advancing a base on a passed ball. Sophomore catcher Lauren Antosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) singled to bring both runners across home plate, ending game one after five innings by a 15-4 deficit.
Rinaldi and Keefer both went 1-for-2 at the plate, scoring one run each. Hall went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bob hit 1-for-3 in the batters box with a run batted in. Bendick finished game one on the mound with two strike-outs.
Game two saw twelve Westmoreland County Community College runs as Greater Allegheny posted two scores in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bendick walked to first base as she was pushed home by a Bob double. Hall reached first base on error by the third baseman, scoring Bob, and finishing their scoring drive. Westmoreland County Community College took game two by a final score of 12-2.
Antosik finished game two hitting 2-for-3 in the batters box as Bob went 1-for-2 with one run and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Nicole Velasquez (Long Eddy, N.Y./Sullivan West) assisted her team as she batted 1-for-2 through the final game of the day.
Greater Allegheny (0-2) is set to travel to Carlow on Thursday for a double-header slated for a 2 p.m. first-pitch.
