Greater Allegheny Softball Expended by Schyulkill

Schyulkill Haven, Pa. - Through ten-innings of action, the Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team falls short of Penn State Schyulkill to wrap up a Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend, 13-4 and 17-3.

In the top of the first inning of game one, senior first baseman Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) doubled before freshman catcher Kaylin Bob (Atlanta, Ga./Forest Park) bunt singled. As junior right-handed pitcher Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) doubled, she batted in Hall to score, GA ahead 1-0.

Schyulkill managed two runs in the bottom of the first before GA came back up to bat in the top of the second. Sophomore third baseman Marina Rinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) singled before sophomore center-fielder Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) was hit-by-pitch. Sophomore second baseman Lauren Antosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) singled as freshman right-fielder Albree Weisen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) reached on a fielder's choice. Hall singled to bat in Brisbon before freshman shortstop Jen Keefer (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) singled to bat home Antosik, 3-2 GA. 

The top of the third saw a Rinaldi single before Brisbon was hit-by-pitch and Antosik was walked to fill the bases. Weisen sacrifice flied out to center field to score Rinaldi, 4-2.

Schyulkill evened the tally at four after the bottom of the third as they managed five runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth, holding GA to their four. Schyulkill came out victorious after five innings, 13-4.

Bendick saw 38 batters through the five innings of action, sitting down four on strike-out. Hall and Rinaldi hit 2-for-3, each tallying a run with Hall an RBI. Bob and Keefer went 2-for-3 as Keefer marked a run batted in. Antosik hit 1-for-1 with a run added.

Game two started with Greater Allegheny at the plate. Hall doubled before Bob walked. Bendick doubled to move Hall home, GA ahead 1-0. Senior first baseman Kim Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) walked as both Rinaldi and Brisbon singled to bat home Bob and Bendick, Greater Allegheny leading Schyulkill 3-0.

The bottom of the first inning brought 12 Schyulkill runs as they managed to rack up another five through the final three runs of the second game. Penn State Schyulkill overcame Penn State Greater Allegheny by a 17-3 tally through game two.

Brisbon went 2-for-2 with a run batted in while Bendick went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Rinaldi and Kelli Hall both went 1-for-3 as Hall scored once and Rinaldi batted another run home. 

Greater Allegheny (0-11, 0-8 PSUAC) looks onward to Wednesday as they travel with the baseball team to Penn State Beaver for a PSUAC double-header. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
