Greater Allegheny Softball Finishes 2014-15 Season Against Mont Alto

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Through a set of Penn State University Athletic Conference matches, the Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team wrapped up their 2014-15 season over Penn State Mont Alto, Sunday afternoon, with two games ending in Mont Alto's favor, 11-1 and 17-8.

Mont Alto notched a run in the top of the first inning of game one before GA came to bat in the bottom of the inning. Freshman shortstop Jen Keefer (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) singled before she advanced to second on a freshman catcher Kaylin Bob (Atlanta, Ga./Forest Park) ground-out. Junior right-handed pitcher Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) doubled to bat in Keefer, posting the lone Greater Allegheny run of game one.

Mont Alto managed ten additional runs through the fifth inning to take the first bout, 11-1. Bendick pitched five innings through game one, facing 34 batters with two sitting down on strike-out. Keefer went 2-for-2 in the batters box before she scored the lone run. Both Bendick and Rinaldi went 1-for-2, as Bendick batted in Keefer.

Mont Alto was held scoreless through the top of the first inning in game two. Keefer singled before Bendick hammered another double, scoring Keefer and putting GA ahead for the first time in the day, 1-0.

The top of the second brought Mont Alto a run to tie the game at one before they managed another in the bottom of the second, 2-1 Mont Alto. The bottom of the third started off with a senior right-handed pitcher Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) double. Keefer singled to score Hall as Bendick homered to bring both her and Keefer home, 4-2 GA.

Mont Alto marked four runs in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead over the home team before the bottom of the inning. Freshman center-fielder Nicole Velasquez (Long Eddy, N.Y./Sullian West) singled before Keefer singled to bat Nicole home. Bendick singled to advance Keefer as Bob singled to score Keefer. Sophomore third baseman Marina Rinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) blasted a homerun to score both herself and Bob, GA leading 8-6.

A silent fifth inning saw a burst of runs in the sixth inning. Mont Alto marked eight runs in the top of the sixth and another in the top of the seventh as they held Greater Allegheny scoreless, finishing game two at a 17-8, Mont Alto.

Hall threw all seven innings, as she faced 48 batters. Keefer completed game two as she went 3-for-4 from the box and tallied three runs with two RBIs. Bendick, Bob and Rinaldi all hit 3-for-4 with one run scored each as the trio ushered in six RBIs.

The Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team wraps up their 2014-15 season with an overall record 2-15, 2-12 PSUAC with a total of 84 runs scored through 17 games.
