GA Softball Drops Two in Final Day Against Cincinnati-Clermont

Clncinnati, Ohio - In the final day of a four-game United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) weekend, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's softball team dropped two games to Cincinnati-Clermont, Sunday afternoon, by tallies of 11-7 and 1-0.

In game one on day two, Greater Allegheny was first on the board in the top of the first inning. Freshman catcher Syd Fritchman (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) walked to push home freshman second baseman Michaela Henderson (Bowie, Md./Bullis School) to score. Freshman first baseman Morgan Lancaster (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke High) singled to bat home both senior outfielder Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) and freshman third baseman Raeann Sleith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Fritchman was the last to cross home plate, 4-0 GA.

UC-Clermont managed two in the bottom of the inning before the Lions earned another run in the second. Lancaster reached on fielder's choice to score Sleith, 5-2.

UC posted five more runs in the second to escalate the home team to 7-5 over GA.

The top of the fourth brought a Lancaster bat to score Fritchman and Bendick, tying the game back at seven. 

Three more UC runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the sixth capped off the Lions through game one. 

Freshman pitcher Savannah Simm (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) faced 40 batters through six innings, sitting five down on strike-outs.

Lancaster recorded five RBIs while Sleith noted 3-of-4 from the plate with two runs scored. 

Neither team could get any offense generated, as the Lions managed just three hits on 27 at bats. Henderson, Sleith and Lancaster all connected in the box as the ladies sent the game into overtime.

Clermont managed a run in the eight inning to end the weekend with a 1-0 UC-Clermont upset.

Freshman pitcher Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) faced 24 batters over seven innings of action, as the righty sat down six on strike-outs.

Greater Allegheny (1-3) looks forward to jumping into Penn State University Athletic Conference action on Friday, then the ladies travel to Penn State New Kensington. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
