Greater Allegheny Softball Drops Pair at Penn State Beaver

Monaca, Pa. - In a set of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) contests, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's softball team lost two games to Penn State Beaver, Monday afternoon, by scores of 4-1 and 11-0.

Greater Allegheny was first on the board in the first inning of game one as freshman third baseman Raeann Sleith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) reached first on an error by the shortstop to score freshman catcher Sydney Fritchman (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton), 1-0 GA.

Three Beaver runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth ended game one at a 4-1 home team advantage.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) pitched all six innings, sitting five of her 29 batters down on strike-out.

Fritchman went 2-for-3 with one run scored as four others connected through the first game.

Game two went just five innings, as Beaver managed a 11-0 victory. Five runs in the first, four in the second and two in the fourth resulted in the second game slide.

Freshman first baseman Courtney Shadd (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) went 2-for-2 while Sleith posted 2-of-3. Freshman third baseman Morgan Lancaster (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke High) and Lautner both added hits as well.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Savannah Simm (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) pitched four innings with one strike-out.

Greater Allegheny (9-11, 8-8 PSUAC) hosts their final home games of the season as Penn State Beaver comes to Woodland Hills High School on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch of the double-header is set for 2 p.m.
