PSUGA Softball Player Lacie Lautner was honored by the USCAA on Tuesday night being named the USCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Lautner pitched in all four games and compiled a 2.36 ERA while going 3-0.
McKeesport, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released their weekly awards on Tuesday night and Penn State Greater Allegheny Softball Pitcher Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, PA./Thomas Jefferson) was named Softball Pitcher of the Week. Lacie starred in all four of PSUGA’s games starting three of them and coming in relief in another as Softball swept PSU-DuBois in a four-game series.
Lautner kicked off her strong weekend tossing a complete game shutout in game one of the team’s doubleheader with PSU-Mont Alto on April 6th. She gave up just three hits in the contest while striking out five batters on the way to the victory. She then came in relief for game two and pitched two scoreless innings allowing just two hits.
After a day off on Saturday, Lautner went back to the mound on Sunday for game one of that doubleheader and gave up just one run in seven innings of work while giving up six hits and striking out five picking up her fourth win of the season. She started game two of the doubleheader as well and lasted three innings giving up four runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two.
Between all four games, Lautner went a combined 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA against Mont Alto over the weekend with 12 strikeouts. Lautner is now 6-0 on the season with a 3.03 ERA, which is good for second in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. She has 25 strikeouts and just four walks over her first 37 innings of work this season.
Lautner is coming off of an impressive Freshmen campaign in which she won the PSUAC Pitcher of the Year award after going 8-3 with a 2.73 ERA. With a team mostly consisting of younger players, Lautner has had to step up in a leadership role this season and is embracing it as her team currently sits at a perfect 6-0 in PSUAC play and an 8-3 record overall marking their best start in program history.
Lautner and the rest of the PSUGA Softball Team will be back in action on Thursday afternoon when they take on PSU-Fayette in doubleheader action. Game one is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. followed by game two at 5 p.m.
