Lautner Named PSUAC Pitcher of the Week

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State University Athletic Conference Released their weekly awards on Tuesday and Penn State Greater Allegheny Softball player Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, PA./Thomas Jefferson) was honored as this week’s PSUAC Pitcher of the week. Lautner appeared in four of her teams eight games over the week and went a perfect 4-0 helping her team make history winning the most games in franchise history.

After coming into the week having lost five games in a row, PSUGA was looking for a pick me up and Lautner was able to provide it right away. Against PSU-DuBois on April 18th, she went four innings giving up one earned run on nine hits while striking out nine batters in a 17-1 win that claimed them a sweep of the doubleheader.

Lautner was right back at it over the weekend pitching three days in a row including two games against PSU-New Kensington. She tossed the game that helped PSUGA break the record for wins in a season in game two against PSU-New Kensington on Saturday when she went five shut out innings giving up four hits and striking out seven.

Lautner finished her week looking to help PSUGA split with PSU-Fayette on Sunday and force Fayette to play a tie breaker game for the #1 seed in the PSUAC Playoffs. She once again was dominant pitching five innings, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out seven in the 10-1 victory.

Lautner is having a career year in 2018 where she is 11-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 77.2 innings of work while striking out 77 and walking 10 batters. Lautner’s 11 wins are a new career high and her 77 strikeouts are just 10 away from what she had last season when she struck out 87 in 81.2 innings of work.

This is the second weekly award Lautner has won for the 2018 season as she also won the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 1st – April 7th. Lautner is poised to help her team make a long playoff run as they try for their first ever PSUAC Championship.

The first round of the PSUAC Playoffs takes place on Friday April 27th when PSUGA will travel to the loser of PSU-Beaver and PSU-Fayette’s tie breaker game, which will be played at PSU-DuBois on Wednesday. The winner of Friday’s contest will then advance to the PSUAC Semifinals which will be played at University Park.
