Strong Performance from Love, GA Softball drops Doubleheader to Mont Alto

Game 1 Recap:

A strong pitching performance from Tara Love (Chandler, AZ. / Campo Verde HS) was not enough in game 1 of a doubleheader for Greater Allegheny to overtake Mont Alto. Love went the distance scattering 5 hits and not allowing any earned runs. She finished the game with 4 strikeouts and was backed by a supportive defensive performance from outfielders Ivy Mervis (Pittsburgh, PA. / Taylor Allderdice HS), Alyssa Guzzi (Pittsburgh, PA. / Fox Chapel HS), and Samantha Snashell (Buffalo, NY. / Charter School for Applied Technology).

The game was scoreless until the top of the 5th when Mont Alto finally broke through with 2 unearned runs. Greater Allegheny was able to minimize the damage and got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th when Maura Ryan (Monroeville, PA / Gateway HS) walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error to second base.

The rally looked promising to continue in the bottom of the 6th when Christina Pasinski (McKeesport, PA / East Allegheny HS) singled and stole second. Things ended there as she was left stranded. GA was unable to get anything going in the bottom of the 7th and the game ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

Game 2 Recap:

Greater Allegheny fell behind early and was never able to get things going to mount a comeback in game 2 of the twinbill. Mont Alto jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead from a Emily Sicinski 3 run homerun to center field.

GA got one back in the bottom of the first from a Christina Pasinski (McKeesport, PA / East Allegheny HS) RBI single to score Maura Ryan (Monroeville, PA / Gateway HS) to make it 4-1 for the away side.

5 errors hurt Greater Allegheny, as only two of the 8 total runs for Mont Alto were earned. Maura Ryan went 5.2 innings on the hill striking out 3. Final Mont Alto 8 - Greater Allegheny 2.

Greater Allegheny returns to action at home on Tuesday, March 23 at 3pm and 5pm against Penn State Fayette.
