Softball Drops Two at Home to Beaver

The GA Women's Softball team suffered two losses to Penn State Beaver in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27th.

Penn State Beaver jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning in Game 1. GA cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning thanks to a 2-run double off the bat of Tara Love (Chandler, AZ/Campo Verde HS). That would be the only runs GA scored in the game. Beaver added runs in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings to take Game 1 with a score of 11-2.

Love tallied three hits in the game and suffered the loss on the mound. Ivy Mervis (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice HS) added two hits of her own, and Brianna O'Malley (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel HS) contributed a hit in the effort.

Game 2 saw GA in a pitching duel for the majority of the game. Maura Ryan (Monroeville, PA/Gateway HS) took the mound, tossing 4+ innings of scoreless softball before Beaver was able to push a run across in the top of the fifth inning. They would then add three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to round out the scoring at 4-0. Ryan went the distance in the game, striking out six in the loss.

GA drops to 4-4 on the season and in the conference. The team looks to bounce back from the losses on Thursday, April 1st, as they travel to Penn State New Kensington for a doubleheader.
