Softball Preps for Senior Night, Final Playoff Push

Baserunner and Coach

(Mckeesport, PA)

6 Greater Allegheny Softball Seniors will play their final home game on Tuesday, April 20 against Penn State New Kensington at Renzie Field.

For Tara Love (Chandler, AZ Campo Verde HS), Alyssa Guzzie (Pittsburgh, PA/ Fox Chapel HS), Samantha Snashell (Buffalo, NY Charter School of Applied Technology), Ivy Mervis (Pittsburgh, PA/ Taylor Allerdice HS), and Kennedy Henderson (Missouri City, TX/ Elkins HS) this will be the final time they take the home field as GA Softball players. Haley Snyder (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville HS) will be cheering the girls on from the dugout as she has done all season after being sidelined for medical reasons.

Plans for the 6 after their time at GA comes to an end involve graduate school, entering the work force full-time, and getting into coaching.

This group comprises local players from the Pittsburgh area and out of state players from places such as Arizona, New York, and Texas.

This is a group that has been playing together a long time. For Love, Guzzie, Mervis, and Snyder, they've been teammates since 2017. For Snashell who joined the team as a sophomore and Kennedy as a senior, they've jumped right into the mix to bring this team to the brink of locking up a PSUAC playoff birth. The first for the program since 2017.

On reflecting on her experience in the softball program, Haley Synder said, "Make sure you play every game like it could be your last because some day you will put spikes on, walk into the batter's box, and cheer 'GA on 3' for the last time."

There is something really powerful about being a part of a team, competing for one another, and giving everything you have to dare we say, "Be Greater". It is great preparation for life.

Tara Love added, "Playing this sport has taught me how to properly handle adversity and how to come out stronger on the other side."

"Softball has prepared me for life in ways I never imagined. This sport gave me strength, persistence and grace. This game taught me to be mentally stronger and driven. Knowing life too as a game of failure, will allow me to push myself even harder in the future" said, Alyssa Guzzie.

Let's hope these valuable life lessons come in handy tonight.

GA currently sits in 3rd and today's games against New Kensington are critical for locking up the final playoff spot in the PSUAC West. GA currently leads New Kensington on winning percentage.

First pitch is at 5pm.
