Late Heroics Lift Women's Basketball to Crucial PSUAC Victory

McKeesport, Pa- Down as many as 11 in the 2nd half, the GA women's basketball team used a late jumper from Sophomore Guard Megan Brinkos (McKeesport), coupled with a last-second defensive stand, to earn a crucial PSUAC victory over visiting Penn State Beaver (9-5, 6-1), 56-55.  A game that saw 2 ties and 7 lead changes, may prove to be a springboard for the remainder of the GA season.

  The GA women shot 33% from the field, while holding the Beaver offense to just 29%, and 22% from behind the arc.  The women would also outscore Beaver 38-22 in the paint, demonstrated by their 55-48 advantage on the glass.

 Brinkos would score 17 points on the day, while also grabbing 5 rebounds.  Senior Forward Rachel Halaszynski (Elizabeth Forward) turned in a double-double performance, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, before leaving with a leg injury.  

 The victory improves the GA record to 6-9 overall, and 5-2 in the PSUAC. The Lady Lions will return to action next Wednesday, January 25th, as they travel to Penn State Du Bois for a 6 PM, PSUAC game.
