Women's Basketball Cashes in PSUAC Win Over Wilkes-Barre

McKeesport, Pa- With a pretty evenly contested first half, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team turned on the heat as they overtook Penn State Wilkes-Barre in a PSUAC conference match-up Friday evening, 59-49.

A slow-moving first half ended in PSUGA being up by one point over Wilkes-Barre. Attributing to the game largely was sophomore Taylor Fulton (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin). She achieved 13 points in the first half, finishing the game with 24 total points, four steals and four rebounds.

A key point into the Wilkes-Barre defense was on turnovers. The visiting team coughed up the ball 24 times, giving GA an opportunity. Greater Allegheny was then able to achieve 25 points off of turnovers, doubling those from Wilkes-Barre off of the same advantage.

Standout efforts from other GA hoopers like freshman guard Shelby Bendick (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport), as she went on to make both of her free throws alongside totaling 10 rebounds, sophomore guard Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) went on to gobble up nine rebounds and post 12 points, sophomore forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, PA/Sts. Neumann-Gorett) grabbed 12 rebounds and checked nine points off, and sophomore guard Ciera Hussey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) added 10 points to the total, also helping with seven rebounds.

Greater Allegheny persevered with a standout effort to earn the triumph, now sitting in the standings at 11-7, 6-3 PSUAC. Penn State Greater Allegheny returns to the Wunderley Gymnasium to host PSUAC conference play Saturday afternoon. Tip-off over Penn State Hazleton is set to start at 1 p.m.
