Women's Basketball- PSUAC First Round Preview

McKeesport, Pa- Revenge is a dish best served cold, as is often said, will be exactly the desired outcome for the women's basketball team when they travel to Penn State Hazleton on this chilly, February evening for their first round of PSUAC playoff action.  Just a few short weeks ago, Hazleton escaped the Wunderley Gymnasium with a huge 56-52 victory over GA.

Greater Allegheny shot just 19-66 (28.8%) from the field in the first meeting, a number head coach Lou Zadecky expects to improve upon: "We need everyone to play within their role and to run the offense- when they run the offense, I think good things will happen."

Coach Zadecky will also being looking to shutdown Hazleton forward, Alexis Daly, who scored 26 of their 56 points in the first battle, without neglecting the other talented, opposing players. "We don't wanna get too focused on one player, we feel that they have two major forwards and a guard that can do some damage."

Defensively, GA expects to "pack it in", as Hazleton routinely starts three forwards.  "We're gonna pack it in, and force them to shoot outside. If they're going to beat us, it's going to be from the perimeter."

One of the most important factors heading into the rematch will be the battle in the paint;  Hazleton outrebounded GA 40-30, while both teams tallied 28 points in the paint.  Only twice out of Greater Allegheny's 13 total wins, were they able to overcome losing the rebounding the battle.  "I think when we're on the boards, we're one of the toughest teams to beat."

However, you can throw all the previous numbers, trends, and game plans out the window, as tonight's 6 PM game begins the one-and-done scenarios.  "There's one game to play, this season is one game at a time now."
