GA Women's Basketball Earn Second Conference Win

Lehman, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team achieved their second straight Penn State University Athletic Conference win Saturday afternoon, as the ladies overcame Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 51-44.

Senior point guard Taylor Fulton (Duquesne, Pa./West Mifflin) and freshman power forward Aaquila Youngblood (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) added marks quickly toward the GA tally, as they found themselves ahead of Wilkes-Barre, 10-6, just three minutes into the game. Junior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Saints Neumann-Goretti) completed two-of-two at the line to increase the mark.

Greater Allegheny continued to swell as Fulton hammered a three-pointer, followed by a jumper made by freshman point guard Shacobia Horn (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge), 17-6. Freshman power forward Tenisha Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) contributed to the mix as she earned a jumper. Wilkes-Barre held Greater Allegheny limited through the last few minutes of the first half, inching their way closer to the GA influx. Floyd, Fulton and Youngblood comprised of the rest of the scoring drive for the first twenty minutes, going into halftime 27-24.

Four of the starting five add points within the first five minutes toward Greater Allegheny's tally. Floyd contributes another jumper to increase the score 38-35. Wilkes-Barre tacked-on a few more before junior guard Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) managed two jumpers to inflate the lead to 44-38. Fulton and Youngblood teamed up to secure the lead, as the Greater Allegheny Lions came out victorious after forty minutes of play, 51-44.

Fulton dropped 22 points, six rebounds and six steals alongside shooting 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Floyd went 4-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, while notching ten points and eight boards. 

GA managed to bucket 16 points off of Wilkes-Barre turnovers. As a team, they shot 62.5% (10-of-16) from the free-throw line.

Greater Allegheny (4-6, 2-1 PSUAC) is set to travel with the men next Wednesday December 11th to Penn State Beaver with the men's team.
