GA Women's Hoops Conquers Mont Alto for Seventh Consecutive Win

Mont Alto, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team not only celebrated their seventh consecutive conference win of the season, but also witnessed senior point guard Taylor Fulton's (Duquesne, Pa./West Mifflin) 1,000th career point in the 75-41 seize of Penn State Mont Alto.

The game began with Fulton being only 19 points away from the momentous accomplishment of dropping 1,000 points in a Penn State uniform.

Greater Allegheny was the first of the Penn State's on the board, as junior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Saints Neumann-Goretti) netted a lay-up. Freshman forward Aaquila Youngblood (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) and junior guard Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) got into the mix, as each of them managed to drop two apiece before Floyd earned a jumper.

Over the course of eleven minutes, it was a Fulton and Youngblood party, as the duo paired up to contribute 20 to drive on the GA swell, 30-18. Floyd made up the final eight points before halftime, as the Greater Allegheny Lions found themselves up 38-26.

Youngblood came out hot, as the freshman dropped two back-to-back lay-ups. Fulton was next up, as she dropped six points to add to the GA tally, bringing the score to 48-28 in just three short minutes. Layne made four of the next six as Fulton got jumbled within the sequence. Youngblood put up six more points, as the force showed her strengths in the paint.

The next addition to the Greater Allegheny mark was a lay-up from Fulton, bringing the game to a 63-37 pummeling. With that basket dropped, Fulton earned her 1,000th and 1,001st point in a Penn State jersey. Plus, the game still had nine valuable playing minutes left to expire.

Freshman Tenisha Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) made her presence known, as the 6-1 forward earned a jumper to lift her teams mark. Floyd and Youngblood inflated Greater Allegheny six more points off lay-ups, continuing on the GA drive. Freshman guard Tra-Esha Carswell (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) assisted her team as she made a free-throw just before Youngblood cashed in for a point off the charity stripe.

Fulton added the last points for the night for Greater Allegheny, as the big timer dropped a jumper, leaving the game at a 75-41 walkover. Fulton completed the night going 41.6% (10-of-24) from the floor, depositing 22 points, pulled down nine boards alongside dishing out eight assists over the course of 40 minutes played. The force also managed five steals.

Youngblood poured on a game-high and career-high 25 points and grabbed up 14 rebounds in the PSUAC flex. Youngblood also managed to answer 57.1% (12-of-21) from the floor while only seeing 24 minutes of action.

Floyd also helped her team, as the power forward supplied Greater Allegheny with 16 points added along with 15 rebounds, eight of them being offensive.

As a team, Greater Allegheny earned 39.1% (34-of-87) of their shots launched from the floor alongside shooting 50% (6-for-12) from the free-throw line. Greater Allegheny also managed to drop 58 points in the paint, allowing the takeover. The GA defense continued on to out-rebound Mont Alto, 55-35. The visiting team turned 18 Mont Alto turnovers into 23 Greater Allegheny points, influxing the score.
