Greater Allegheny Women's Hoops Edged Out by Lehigh Valley, 63-61

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team wrapped up a Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend, as Penn State Lehigh Valley narrowly swiped the conference win, 63-61, Sunday afternoon. 

Senior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Sts. Neumann-Goretti) put up a free-throw to get GA on the board two minutes into the game. Freshman guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) slashed a jumper before Floyd made a layup. Freshman guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) extended Greater Allegheny's lead to 7-2 with a made jumper. Freshman forward Kelly Moore (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen) put down a jumper before freshman forward Bethany Siebert (Tarrs, Pa./Southmoreland) added two to tie the game at eleven with eleven minutes left until halftime.

Lehigh Valley took the lead while freshman forward Morgan McCallister (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) put down a pair of layups. T. Johnston drained a three-pointer to bring the game to a 23-18 Lehigh Valley lead. The visiting team swelled to 32 before Moore bucketed a layup and Siebert dropped a trey with less than three until half. Moore and M. Johnston slashed free-throws before Siebert notched the final GA point of the first half, Lehigh Valley leading 36-28.

M. Johnston and Siebert added eight to start the second half beofre Floyd brought the game within three while she added three, 42-39. M. Johnston completed both attempts from the foul line before T. Johnston polished off a three-pointer with eleven minutes left in regulation, 46-44 LV. M. Johnston, Floyd and Moore added buckets to bring the game to a 50-49 Greater Allegheny lead with five minutes to go. 

Moore downed four points as sophomore guard Tra-Esha Carswell added a three-pointer, 58-57 Lehigh Valley. Moore added a free-throw before T. Johnston put up a three-pointer as the clock wound down to zero, Lehigh Valley just ahead of Greater Allegheny 63-61.

Floyd pulled down a total 26 boards, netting eight points, two assists and two steals. Moore put down 12 points while grabbing nine rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals. M. Johnston added 12 points, seven assists, three steals and three rebounds while completing 100% (6-for-6) from the free-throw line. T. Johnston dropped eleven points with four boards and four assists. Siebert and McCallister dumped a combined 15 points while shooting 87.5% (7-of-8) of their shots taken from the floor.

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 68.8% (11-of-16) from the foul line while netting 23 points on turnovers, 13 points off second chance and 16 points in the paint.
