Titusville, Pa. - In their final non-conference game of the 2014-15 season, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team went on the road to overhaul Pitt-Titusville by a deafening tally of 83-48.
Freshman guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was the first to drop points in the game with a ringer of a three-pointer on the first drive. Freshman guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) followed up with a layup before Titusville gained a three-pointer and a free-throw. T. Johnston dropped a jumper before freshman guard Teona Cash (McKeesport, Pa./Woodland Hills) completed a layup, GA ahead 9-4 just four minutes into the game.
Both senior guard Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and senior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Sts. Neumann-Goretti) matched one-another with a layup apiece. T. Johnston dropped a jumper before Floyd connected with another in the paint, GA now leading 17-4. Layne, Floyd and Cash put down two points apiece as the Johnston sisters added points on free-throws.
Cash marked a jumper before Floyd made a layup, extending Greater Allegheny over the home team by ten. M. Johnston hammered down a three-pointer as Floyd laid a bucket in the paint sending the two teams into halftime, GA leading 35-28.
T. Johnston came out of the gate with another trey to continue Greater Allegheny's stride on Pitt-Titusville. Cash dropped a pair of layups and a free-throw as sophomore guard Tra-Esha Carswell (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) put down a layup. Freshman forward Morgan McCallister (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) went on to slash a jumper to send GA ahead of the home team, 50-28, just five minutes into the second-half.
Carswell, Cash and M. Johnston added points from the foul-line as Floyd completed another trio of layups. M. Johnston, Floyd, Layne and Cash all added two apiece as the clock wound down under seven miuntes of regulation, 69-37. Carswell and McCallister each finished a layup to continue the Greater Allegheny lead. Cash went up and added the layup as M. Johnston dropped a pair of layup's on the Pitt-Titusville defense. Layne completed the jumper before Carswell marked the final points of the contest for the blue and white. The Greater Allegheny women's basketball team finished the contest with the largest win over an opponent of the 2014-15 season, 83-48.
Floyd went on to register 18 points with 14 rebounds, noting her 18th double-double of her senior season. Cash marked 18 points with eleven points, six assists, three steals and two blocks, as the guard noted 77.7% (7-of-9) from the floor alongside 80% (4-of-5) from the free-throw line. M. Johnston totaled 16 points with six boards and seven assists through the contest while T. Johnston added 12 points with four assists, two boards and a steal. Layne completed 80% (4-of-5) of her shots taken from the floor alongside putting up a huge defensive effort with ten rebounds in her 23 minutes of action.
As a team, Greater Allegheny finished 66.7% (10-of-15) of their shots from the free-throw line alongside doubling Pitt-Titusville's rebound total, 62-31. GA hammered down 46 points in the paint, 18 points on second-chance and 14 points points off fast break.
The Greater Allegheny women's basketball team (9-13, 7-6) regains their focus on the Penn State University Athletic Conference play-off run. The ladies are set to travel to Penn State Beaver for their final regular season contest of the year. The game is set for tip-off at 6 p.m.
