Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball Downed by Carlow, 84-59

McKeesport, Pa. - Despite double-digit contributions from both Tori and Mandi Johnston, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team dropped to Carlow University, Tuesday evening, 84-59.

Sophomore guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was the first to score for Greater Allegheny with a three-pointer. Sophomore forward Morgan McCallister (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) slashed a free-throw as freshman guard Brianna Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./University Prep) rode out the first quarter scoring drive for Greater Allegheny, Carlow leading 20-6 after the first ten minutes of action.

T. Johnston netted a free-throw point before she added a three-pointer, 26-10 Carlow. Sophomore guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) dropped two from the foul line as T. Johnston denoted a jumper. Williams noted a free-throw before M. Johnston added two more, 20-19 Carlow. Freshman forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) laid on points in the paint as McCallister mirrored her, 39-23 Celtics at the half.

M. Johnston was the first to answer in the new half with a layup before junior guard Jess Manfredi 
(Jefferson Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) added a jumper, 53-27 Carlow. Williams landed one a jumper just short of the arc to add two from the floor for the Lions. T. Johnston dropped a jumper from the paint before Williams added another two in the paint, 57-33 Celtics.

M. Johnston zipped down the floor for a fast two points to get GA back on the board before the guard closed the third quarter with a free-throw, Greater Allegheny trailing 66-36 with just ten minutes left in regulation.

T. Johnston surplused the Lions with two from the free-throw line before M. Johnston mirrored her with a pair herself, 66-40. T. Johnston roped a jumper as Burroughs and M. Johnston both put up two points a piece. M. Johnston had another jumper before Manfredi dropped five from the free-throw line and a layup, 79-55 Celtics. 

M. Johnston put down a jumper as freshman Chelsy Ware (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy to cap off the scoring drive for the Greater Allegheny Lions, as they succumbed to the Carlow University Celtics 84-59.

M. Johnston shot 46.2% (6-for-13) from the floor while adding 72.7% (8-of-11) from the free-throw line. The guard surplused the Lions 20 points with four rebounds, four assists and one steal. T. Johnston contributed 14 points with two rebounds, one block and one assist. Manfredi drained 83.3% (5-of-6) of her shots from the free-throw line as the junior denoted nine points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

As a team, Greater Allegheny was severely out-rebounded 64-35 as Carlow capitalized on 19 points off turnovers. The Lions completed 60.7% (17-of-28) from the foul line as the ladies added 18 points in the paint, ten points off second-chance and nine points off turnovers.

Greater Allegheny (3-6) gears up for Penn State University Athletic Conference play, Saturday afternoon, as Penn State Fayette comes to Wunderley Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
