Tilted Second Quarter Too Much to Overcome for GA Women's Hoops, 93-78

Allentown, Pa. - A one-sided second-quarter was just too much to overcome for the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team over Penn State Lehigh Valley, Monday afternoon, as the women dropped another PSUAC contest, 93-78.

Junior guard Jess Manfredi (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) completed the first points of the game with a made layup as freshman forward Tiajuanna Burke (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) matched her. Sophomore guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) drained a three-pointer as Burke put on two more points in the paint, 9-6 just four minutes in.

Manfredi and T. Johnston dropped a trey each before sophomore guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made a layup, 17-14. Lehigh Valley held Greater Allegheny silent the last two minutes until break, taking the lead 18-17.

LV came out hot and went on a 9-0 run the first three minutes of the game. M. Johnston and Manfredi broke the silence with pair of three-pointers. Freshman forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) made a layup before T. Johnston matched her, 38-27 with less than three minutes until the break. M. Johnston laid on the final four points before halftime, Lehigh Valley in the drivers seat, 49-31.

T. Johnston and Manfredi both made layups before M. Johsnton made a three, 54-38. Burke placed a jumper as M. Johnston tacked on another three-pointer and a free-throw. T. Johnston continued with a three-pointer as Manfredi road out the third quarter, Lehigh Valley ahead a staggering 74-51.

Burke completed a layup as Manfredi put down a three-pointer to kick-off the fourth set of ten minutes. M. Johnston added a jumper before T. Johnston and Manfredi both put down treys. T. Johnston completed a jumper. Manfredi put up four as M. Johnston capitalized on a pair of three-pointer. T. Johnston capped off the game scoring with a jumper as Greater Allegheny fell short of Lehigh Valley, 93-78.

Manfredi finished the game shooting 50% (9-of-18) from the floor with four three-pointers made, tallying 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. M. Johnston put down nine buckets from the floor with five good three-pointers, adding up to 24 points, six boards, five steals and three assists. Burke pulled down a game-high 16 boards with eight points and two steals. T. Johnston tacked on 20 points, contributing eight buckets and four three-pointers, while denoting six boards, five assists and two steals. 

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 50% (3-of-6) of their shots from the foul line while cashing in 31 buckets from the floor. The Lions were out-rebounded 51-42 while Lehigh Valley coughed the ball up four more times than GA. The women put up 21 points off turnovers and seven points on second-chance.

Greater Allegheny (7-12, 3-6 PSUAC) has a few days off before they host their final home game of the season as Penn State Mont Alto comes to town. Recruit day, as well as a big Penn State University Athletic Conference double-header, is set to tip-off at 1 p.m.
