Lady Lion Hoopers Lasso Mont Alto in Final Home Game of Season, 70-45

McKeesport, Pa. - In the first game of the final Penn State University Athletic Conference home double-header of the season, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team overtook Penn State Mont Alto, 70-45.

Mont Alto put up the first points of the game as GA zipped up to a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Four different GA athletes answered in those three minutes; sophomore guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), freshman forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), junior guard Jess Manfredi (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) and sophomore guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin).

M. Johnston and freshman forward Tiajuanna Burke (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) put down points from the foul line before Burke laid on points in the paint to lead the two teams into their first break at the end of the first quarter, 16-10 GA.

Burke and M. Johnston put up back-to-back layups as Manfredi downed a jumper, 22-13. T. Johnston put up a jumper before M. Johnston drained a three-pointer and a jumper. T. Johnston ended the first half of action with a good trey, Greater Allegheny in the drivers seat 32-21.

In the first minute of the new half, T. Johnston, Burke and M. Johnston all lifted the Lion tally with two points a piece. M. Johnston slashed points outside the arc as T. Johnston drained a jumper, 43-25. T. Johnston and Burke put up points from the foul line to ride out the remainder of the third quarter, 46-30 GA. 

Burke put up a pair of layups while T. Johnston put up points in the paint as well. Burroughs tallied four points before T. Johnston, Manfredi and M. Johnston peppered Mont Alto's defense, 63-39 with less than four minutes to play. M. Johnston denoted a three-pointer before Manfredi put up a layup. T. Johnston finished off the scoring drive with points in the paint, as the Greater Allegheny Lions defense held Mont Alto to a 70-45 overtake.

T. Johnston dropped ten buckets from the floor for a total of a game-high 23 points, seven assists, three boards and two steals. M. Johnston dropped 21 points, eight assists, seven boards, three steals and one block. Burke dropped yet another double-double on the day with a total of 15 rebounds, 12 points and two steals.

As a team, Greater Allegheny finished 57.1% (8-of-14) from the free-throw line while adding 43.3% (29-of-67) from the floor. Although the women were narrowly out-rebounded 49-45, the women placed 42 points in the paint, 20 points on fast break and 19 points on turnovers.
