Point Park Strongholds Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball, 79-36

McKeesport, Pa. - Through forty minutes of regulation, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team fell to the NCAA Division II squad, Point Park, Thursday night, by a margin of 79-36.

PPU jumped out to an eight point lead before sophomore forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) point up points in the paint. Junior guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) put up four straight as Burroughs noted a layup. Johnston hammered down a three-pointer. Point Park continued to swell to end the first quarter, 23-11.

Johnston and freshman guard Destanie Grayson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) put up two points each in the second quarter to send the two teams into halftime, Point Park leading 46-15.

Grayson slashed a free-throw before freshman guard Ronnie Upsher (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) drained a layup. Grayson dropped a jumper to end the third quarter, 58-20.

Carswell put up a pair in the paint as Johnston added four points from the foul line, 61-28.

Upsher and Johnston rode out the remainder of the game with layups, Greater Allegheny falling to Point Park, 79-36.

Johnston dropped 15 points with six rebounds and four assists while Upsher added eight with five boards, three steals and two blocks. Grayson added five points with eight rebounds.

As a team, Greater Allegheny was out-rebounded 63-41. The ladies added 50% (5-of-10) from the foul line whlie noting 22% (15-of-68) from the floor. The Lions put up 24 points in the paint.

Greater Allegheny (2-2) looks forward to hosting their first Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) game of the season on Tuesday, November 29th as Penn State Beaver comes to Wunderley Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
