DuBois, Pa. - Despite battling the entire game, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team fell to Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State DuBois, Friday night, 87-64.

Greater Allegheny jumped out to a 8-0 lead with contributions from sophomore forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), senior guard Tra-Esha Carswell (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley), freshman guard Ronnie Upsher (Pittsburgh, Pa./McKeesport) and junior guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin).

Upsher continued with a layup and one as Johnston and Carswell noted points in the paint. The trio continued as the first quarter came to a close, DuBois in the lead 22-21.

Carswell placed four points as Burroughs noted a jumper and one. Johnston put up four as Upsher finished the scoring drive of th first half, Greater Allegheny behind 46-34.

Upsher was the first to answer in the second half before Johnston and Burroughs put up points in the paint. Johnston, Upsher and Carswell added points to bring the game to 53-48 with less than four minutes until the break. Carswell downed a layup before Upsher added a free-throw, 62-51 DuBois heading into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter of action comprised primarily of Johnston and Upsher completed free-throws as Carswell and Johnston got in the mix with made jumpers. Greater Allegheny could not come back from the deficit, DuBois taking the PSUAC contest, 87-64.

Carswell completed a double-double with 17 rebounds and 16 points bucketed with three steals and one assist. Upsher put up a game-high of 24 points with four boards, two steals, an assist and a block. Johnston compiled 17 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals while Burroughs shot 50% (3-of-6) from the floor with seven points and seven rebounds with three steals.

As a team, Greater Allegheny was out-rebounded 57-36 as the team shot 57.7% (15-of-26) from the free-throw line. The Lions completed 38 points in the paint with 19 points off turnovers and 13 points off second chance.

Greater Allegheny (4-7, 2-3 PSUAC) takes a break for winter and looks forward to opening the second semester of action on the road for another PSUAC battle. Friday, January 13th brings the Lions to Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The women set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
