Lady Lions Edged Out by SUNY-Delhi, 72-67

Delhi, N.Y. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team fell to United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) opponent, SUNY-Delhi, Sunday afternoon, by a tally of 72-67.

Greater Allegheny outscored the home team in not only the first quarter, 13-12, but also the second, 18-15, sending the two teams into halftime with GA ahead, 31-27.

SUNY-Delhi surged in the third quarter to double the Lions score, 26-16. The Lions were now behind 53-44.

Both teams worked hard in the fourth quarter, as GA outscored the competition, 23-19. The late power from the visiting team was just not enough to get out of the damage from the third quarter, Greater Allegheny falling 72-67.

Johnston and Upsher both produced 22 points toward the Lion score, as Johnston added five rebounds, four assists and one steal with 75% (6-of-8) of her free-throws falling. Upsher added eight boards, six steals and two assists with 60% (6-of-10) of her shots added from the foul line. Burroughs pulled down 13 rebounds with four points and three steals while Mitchell contributed eight points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 53.6% (15-of-28) of their shots from the free-throw line while adding 37.7% (26-of-69) of their shots going in from the floor. The Lions out-rebounded SUNY-Delhi 44-41 but the Lions ultimate demise was turnovers, 26-23 GA.

Greater Allegheny (6-14, 3-9 PSUAC) looks forward to getting back into Penn State University Athletic Conference action as Penn State DuBois comes to Wunderley Gymnasium, Tuesday night. The final home game happens to be Senior Night for both the men and women's teams. Tip-off for the game is slated for 6 p.m.
