Wrestling Ends Season with Strong Individual Performances in NCWA Championships
Allen, Tx- In their final performance on the mats this season, the Greater Allegheny wrestling team had three members participate in the NCWA National Championships this past weekend.
Freshman Erik Rayman (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) cruised to a 9-1 victory in his first match in the 141 lb class, but then fell in his next match, 13-2. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Rayman followed his loss by winning two straight matches, including a 4-3 victory that vaulted him into a bout for All-American status. He would then come up short, however, just missing being named an All-American.
Sophomore Matt Lago (Jeannette, PA/Penn-Trafford) opened his 149 lb trip with a tough loss by fall, and then was pinned in his consolation round match. Freshman Genkie Stoutamire (Waldorf, MD/Thomas Stone) rounded out the GA line-up, wrestling in the 184 lb division. In his opening match, Stoutamire fell via pin, but then followed that with a 15-4 victory in his next bout. Following his big win, Stoutamire came up short in his next match, by way of a pin.
