Women's Volleyball Powers Its Way to Quad-Match Sweep

McKeesport, Pa- Needing to bounce back from yesterday's losses, the Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team took out their frustrations in the form of two dominating wins over PSUAC foes, Penn State Worthington Scranton and Penn State Wilkes-Barre.  GA swept both matches, defeating Scranton by scores of 25-9, 25-9, 25-18, and Wilkes-Barre by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-15. 

  Sophomore Alyssa Finocchi (Baldwin, PA) led a strong Greater Allegheny offense with seven kills, while fellow sophomores Audra Besnak (Steel Valley, PA) and Christina Floyd (St. John Neumann, PA) drilled five and four kills, respectively.  Finocchi also added nine digs and four total blocks.  Freshman Haley Worden (Madonna, PA) turned in a strong performance as well, accumulating 13 assists and eight service aces.  As a team, GA hit .415 while limiting themselves to just five attack errors.

  In their second match against Wilkes-Barre, Finocchi turned in another powerful effort on the attack, drilling 13 kills on 19 total attacks.  She would also pick up six service aces and digs.  Floyd added six more kills of her own, while freshman Kayla Franklin (Thurston, MI) landed five.  Worden would aid in the attack with four kills and 18 assists, to go along with her eight service aces. 

  Following the PSUAC sweep, Greater Allegheny improves to 8-12 overall and moves to 6-5 in conference play.  They will look to build on today's wins when they travel to Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday, October 16 for a PSUAC quad-match.  GA will take on Mont Alto and Penn State York, with match times set for 5:30 and 7 PM.
