Women's Volleyball Inches Closer to Postseason Berth with 1-1 Trip

Mont Alto, Pa- Sophomore Alyssa Finocchi (Baldwin, PA) drilled 34 kills between two matches to lead Greater Allegheny to a 3-2 (28-26, 25-27, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11), come-from-behind win over Penn State Mont Alto, before suffering a 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 15-25) setback against Penn State York.

  GA trailed Mont Alto 2-1, before rallying in sets four and five to pick up their seventh PSUAC win.  Finocchi also added five service aces and 35 digs in the match, while sophomore Christina Floyd (St. John Neumann, PA) landed eight kills.  Sophomores Audra Besnak (Steel Valley, PA) and Corinne Wilson (Bethel Park, PA) each had six kills, to go along with 45 and 11 digs, respectively.  Freshman Haley Worden (Madonna, PA) chipped in one kill, and delivered 45 assists.

  Ten of Finocchi's 34 total kills came in their second match against York, with her also accumulating three service aces and 11 digs.  Besnak had eight more kills and seven digs, with Worden notching 19 assists. 

  The split pushes Greater Allegheny to 9-13 overall and 7-6 in the PSUAC, while taking GA one step closer to clinching the program's first ever postseason appearance.  This Thursday, October 18, they will take one final break from PSUAC action for a nonconference match against Carlow.  Start time is set for 6 PM.
