Greater Allegheny Volleyball Splits a Pair in Second Day of PSUAC Quad Action

Lemont Furnace, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team went on the road Sunday morning, as they traveled to Penn State Fayette for day two of PSUAC Quad Meet action.

GA went on to face Penn State Mont Alto to open the day. Though closely competed, the Greater Allegheny Lions came up short against Mont Alto (25-18, 25-17, 25-14). Junior middle hitter Alyssa Finocchi got up for nine kills out of 21 attacks. On the defensive side, Finocchi had three block solos and one block assist, as well as posting 12 digs. Junior middle hitter Christin Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./St. John Neumann) also contributed a helpful five kills and one service ace, as well as having one solo block and four digs. Freshman setter Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) assisted 16 points as well as assisted two blocks. Sophomore Krystal Waller (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) contributed a run for five points in the second set to cut the deficit. Greater Allegheny's efforts fell short as Mont Alto overcame, 3-0.

The Lions held their heads up going into the second game. PSUGA went on to face Penn State York. The first point of the game was a service ace from freshman Raven Gribbins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oyler). Brisbon and Finocchi both also answered with an ace within the first five points to bring GA ahead. The score was pretty back-and-forth through the tenth point. Contributions from the hard-hitting offense boosted Greater Allegheny to take the first set, 25-22.

GA was playing catch-up through the first half of the set. Scoring opportunities cashed in from freshman Brianna Audette (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Gribbins, Finocchi, Floyd, and Brisbon propelled the Lions to a 25-21 victory.

The third set was a nail-biter, as the play went point-for-point. Four consecutive points scored from four different GA players helped the team overcome the conference foe. Finocchi capped off the second set with a kill to lead the Greater Allegheny Lions to a win, 25-22.

Penn State Greater Allegheny (6-11, 4-4) will host Carlow Tuesday night in Wunderley Gymnasium, as they compete in a non-conference match-up set for 6 p.m.
