GA Volleyball Opens Season at 2013 USCAA Tip-Off Classic

Elizabeth, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team completed the first day of the USCAA Tip-Off Classic with four matches on Friday.

The Lions dropped a 3-0 match to Clark State to begin the day. The next game Greater Allegheny took on conference foe, Penn State Beaver. GA took the first two sets in point-for-point play, but went on to drop the following three sets in the best-of-five action.

Greater Allegheny then went on to face Southern State CC for the 5 p.m. tip-off. GA steamrolled to take the first three sets 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.

Penn State finished the day with going up against La Roche. It was difficult to get a run going for the Lions, in turn falling to the Redhawks 3-0.

Junior middle hitter Alyssa Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) contributed immensely to the day with posting an impressive 83 attacks, 34 kills and 18 digs. Over the course of the day, junior middle hitter Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./St. John Neumann) added 58 attacks, 18 kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) also played well for GA for four games today, posting 16 attacks, nine assists and 19 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Franklin (Detroit, Mich./Thurston) assisted the four games of the day with her 49 attacks, 12 kills and 12 digs.

The Lions return to action today as they take on undefeated Rochester College for a 9 a.m. showdown.
