GA Women's Volleyball Starts Regular Season 1-2 in Non-Conference Action

McKeesport, Pa. - Through the initial three games of the season, Tracy Gibbs and the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team start their regular season with a 1-2 record.

The first game of the season came by the way of Rochester College, where GA fell 3-0. The sets ended in a decision of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12.

The next game was over Christendom, where Greater Allegheny grabbed their first win of the season, 3-0, sets ending in 25-11, 25-12 and 25-23.

Junior outside hitter Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) put up six kills, three service aces and four digs through the contest as sophomore setter Courtney Odell Shadd (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) dished out 15 assists with two block solos. Freshman middle hitter Dorina Adou (Kyoto, Japan/Obama Academy) placed four kills with two service aces and two digs while both junior right side Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) and junior outside hitter Laura Vazquez Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) both posted three kills each with a combined total of eight digs. Freshman defensive specialist Hayley Maksin (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) got down for nine digs.

The non-conference string of games wrapped up with Carlow, as GA fell three sets to none. The sets were decided by tallies of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-22.

Vazquez-Diaz placed four kills and eleven digs while Johnston got down for eight digs with three kills. Adou placed four service aces and two digs.

Greater Allegheny (1-2) will kick-off their Penn State University Athletic Conference schedule against Penn State DuBois on Sunday.
